I feel like I have been waiting for this book - a book that I can share with my preschoolers and my elementary kids. A book that we as a family can read together in the days leading up to Christmas.
Unwrapping the Greatest Gift: A Family Celebration of Christmas by Ann Voskamp is a beautifully written and illustrated devotion book that leads your family through the Advent season. Ann Voskamp uses the Jesse Tree ornaments and devotions to countdown the days to Christmas to show families Jesus' own family tree - a tree of hope and new life! You can even download the Jesse Tree ornaments from her website free to make your own Jesse Tree.
Starting on December 1 and leading up to Christmas, Voskamp includes certain elements in every devotion. There is a Scripture and a theme for the day. Then, you read through a couple of pages of an illustrated devotion. She concludes the day with questions for you as a family to discuss regarding the devotion and then some choices for a family activity for you to do together.
I think this is such an engaging book that will truly help to prepare your hearts and the hearts of your family for Christmas. It is simple enough for your preschooler to be able to track along, and yet at the same time your elementary child can be engaged as well. I love the questions and the hands on activities that help promote discussion and help parents to lead their families.
I'm praying this book will be a help to my family and others in keeping us on track in remembering the real reason for Christmas - the Greatest Gift has already been given.
